City of Phoenix Declares Emergency. Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego tweeted March 17: “Based on input from healthcare professionals, business leaders,& community members, PHX is declaring a state of emergency forcing immediate closure of bars & moving restaurants to delivery/take-out/drive-thru only starting 8PM tonight.” Full Statement >>>

Maricopa County Parks remain open but starting March 18 all nature centers will be closed, and all programs, events and Special Use permits are canceled.
The Anthem Cowgirl Cup (Anthem’s first pickleball tournament) will NOT take place as planned this weekend, March 21-22. “We are hoping to reschedule it in the future,” tournament director Gretchen Bender said March 17.
Outdoor Expo, planned for March 21-22 at Ben Avery Shooting Facility, is canceled.
Anthem Area Chamber of Commerce: “Out of an abundance of caution and following CDC recommendations, all in-person chamber meetings and events have been cancelled through the end of March,” the Chamber announced March 16. “This includes Chamber 101 on March 20th and Business After Hours on March 26th. … The chamber office and visitor center will remain OPEN during normal operating hours, Monday – Friday, 10am – 4pm.”
All Arizona public schools will be closed from Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27, Gov. Doug Ducey & state school Superintendent Kathy Hoffman announced Sunday, March 15. The press release is here. Video:

Voting in the Democratic Presidential Preference Election, Tuesday, March 17, will continue, but polling place may have changed; check at Locations.Maricopa.Vote for all open locations and your voting location.
All Maricopa County District 3 Community Events are canceled “until further notice,” said Supervisor Bill Gates. “Please do not hesitate to contact my office with issues or if you need assistance at (602) 506.7562 or District3@Maricopa.gov,” he said.
Phoenix Libraries Closed: The City of Phoenix said on March 15, “Until further notice, beginning Monday morning, March 16, all city libraries and indoor Parks and Recreation facilities will be temporarily closed.”
County Libraries Closed: MCLD said March 15, “In an abundance of caution, County leaders made the decision to close MCLD libraries until further notice effective Monday, March 16. The health and safety of all who enjoy our libraries remain our top priority. We will continue to provide updates in every effort to give you the latest information. Our digital resources and eMedia collection are always available and can be accessed 24/7 on your computer, tablet, or smartphone. Stream music and movies, download eBooks and audio books, or read a digital magazine all from the comfort of your home.”
ProMusica Arizona announced March 14 its April 4 and 5 performances of “Latin Spice.” It will be rescheduled. “For those who have already purchased tickets, we will give you a refund for the purchase price of your tickets, or we will provide a voucher for the same number of tickets for a future concert of your choice,” the organization’s leaders said in a statement.
Musical Theater of Anthem said in an email 3/14: “In light of the recent events, we are going to keep our building empty for almost three weeks. Please see the schedule changes to our current programming. Looking forward to seeing everyone back at MTA very soon!” That includes: No Minis and Acting Class on 3/17 & No Acting Class on 3/24.
Daisy Mountain Rock and Mineral Club canceled the Anthem Gem & Mineral Show that had been slated for March 21-22.
Anthem Days and the carnival was canceled Friday, March 13 by Anthem Community Council.
High Desert Little League posted to Facebook on Friday, March 13: “Baseball activities including practice and games are on hold until April 6th. Please note, THIS IS NOT A CANCELLATION.”

City of Phoenix on March 13 announced several program suspensions and some building closures.
Phoenix Art Museum announced March 13 it is canceling all on-site and off-site museum programs and events, including daily public and school tours, effective immediately through April 3.
Phoenix Symphony says all its performances planned for Symphony Hall through March are cancelled.
Scottsdale Arts said on March 12 that this weekend’s performances at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and our 50th Scottsdale Arts Festival.
