Referencing the popular game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, the actor asked fans to name who they’re staying home for amid the ongoing health crisis.
“Hi, folks. You know me, right?” he began in a video shared on Instagram. “I’m technically only six degrees away from you. Right now, like people around the world, I’m staying home, because it saves lives and it is the only way we’re going to slow down the spread of this coronavirus. Because the contact that you make with someone, who makes contact with someone else, that may be what makes somebody’s mum or grandpa or wife sick.”
The 61-year-old told fans that “every one of us has someone who is worth staying home for” before explaining that he’s staying home to keep his wife, The Closer star Kyra Sedgwick, safe.
“I am staying home for Kyra Sedgwick,” he said. He then pulled out a sign that read “#IStayHomeFor Kyra Sedgwick”.
Bacon asked his followers to share on Instagram who they’re staying home for, and to tag six friends so they can continue the trend. He tagged Jimmy Fallon, Elton John, Brandi Carlile, Kevin Hart, Demi Lovato and David Beckham.
“While you’re staying home, you need to post a video or a sign like this one saying who you’re going to stay home for and you tag six friends so they do the same,” said Bacon. “And since we’re all connected by various degrees, trust me, I know, we can work together to stay home and keep each other safe and spread the word.”
Captioning the video, Bacon said “The more folks involved, the merrier — because we’re all connected by various degrees (Trust me, I know!) So let’s work together to stay home if you can and keep each other safe.”
Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon is a game based on the concept that any two people on earth are connected by six or less acquaintances. The Bacon-specific version exists based on the assumption that anyone in Hollywood can be linked through their film roles to Bacon within six steps.
In 2007, the actor launched a charity called Six Degrees.
