Keith Urban had the crowd in the palm of his hand

Thank you, Adele, for bowing out so Keith Urban could perform in Las Vegas. He is currently performing at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. We went Saturday night. He was engaging, engaged, talented and genuine. He even played the Banjo. Keith had everyone loving every minute of the concert, from his simple and haunting acoustic guitar solos to his trips through the audience. When introducing his band, he gave them the respect of allowing each of them the time to share their musical gifts with the audience. His soaring vocals and wonderful backup had everyone on their feet. I liked it.
As most of you know I’m not the biggest country fan (although I have recently seen Luke Bryan, Garth Brooks and attended the country music awards), but Cindy is. Usually, she picks the concerts and I go along (someone needs to pay). He was great. I know none of his songs. So, on Saturday afternoon, I played his greatest hits — good songs and good musicianship. And a good time. I really liked the music; I was tapping my foot and humming along.
Saturday night he covered one of Adele’s hits. “Easy On Me” was the song, and maybe the message, as Urban returned to his Caesars Palace residency. Those in attendance (and we were not) report the country star said that when Caesars calls, you answer. He also said he is one of Adele’s biggest fans.
The moment Adele’s tune surfaced, which was deep into the show, Urban moved to the center of the theater and sang out, “There ain’t no gold in this river that I’ve been washin’ my hands in forever. I know there is hope in these waters, but I can’t bring myself to swim,” while playing his unplugged six-string. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand. Urban had taken the Friday and Saturday dates last weekend, and next Friday and Saturday. All four of those dates were originally to close the 24 “Weekends with Adele” shows. Personally, I’m happy that it was weekends with Keith instead.
There is no word on when Adele plans to reset that residency, which she dropped in haste on Jan. 19, citing COVID-related concerns within the production. The superstar is reportedly directing her production team to come up with a new design and direction for the stage show. I have a simple solution — KISS — Keep it simple, stupid. He let his performance do the talking. Adele could have done the same thing. But she is a Diva. Keith is not, even though he is married to Nicole Kidman. Yee Haw!
