What started as a hobby to keep children active during the height of the pandemic, has since evolved into a sport that emphasizes the art of double Dutch.
Twice a week, girls gather at Tuley Park on the South Side to exercise both their physical and mental health by jumping rope.
It’s an activity that originated in New York in the 1940s, and has since developed into a sport beyond the sidewalk. Here in Chicago, double Dutch group Jumping Juniors says it’s about more than just the ropes.
With 30 girls in the program, 11 of them are preparing for their first double dutch competition in Washington, D.C.
