Ventura County Sheriff’s Office released a recording of the call on Thursday, July 9 (local time), in which a woman is heard reporting from Lake Piru to say a mother has gone missing from a boat.
“We found a little girl in the boat by herself and the mum is nowhere to be found,” the woman said to the operator on Wednesday, referring to Rivera’s four-year-old son, Josey.
The caller’s husband, who works at the lake, told her to alert the authorities after he was one of the first people on the scene.
“I’m going to go find out more, I’m heading over there right now,” she said, explaining to the dispatcher that she couldn’t immediately give additional information as she was not yet at the location.
Rivera rented a boat with her son Josey at approximately 1pm local time on Wednesday, July 8. About three hours later, an employee at the boat rental site noted that the boat was overdue to return and went to look for her. The boy was found floating in the vessel, apparently asleep, and Rivera was missing. Authorities have since revealed that the star is presumed dead and the search is now a recovery mission.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Dyer has revealed that there was no indication that Rivera was upset or distraught before her disappearance.
“I can’t stress enough that this just seems like a tragic accident — come out here for a great day and something bad happens,” Dyer said in a press conference.
The search for the actress continues, involving more than 80 people.
