You’re probably familiar with her iconic hits like “Jolene” or her role as Miley’s godmother on Hannah Montana.
However, Miss Dolly is more than just a Grammy-award winning, Country Hall of Fame-inducted music legend.

1.
When she helped fund Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine.

The Washington Post reported that Dolly donated a million dollars to coronavirus research at Vanderbilt in honor of Naji Abumrad. She befriended the professor after a car accident in 2013 when she went to the university’s medical center for medical advice.

When she gave millions of free books to children all across the world through her Imagination Library.

Since its inception in 1995, the Imagination Library has donated over 100 million books to children from birth through starting school. The program has expanded to Canada, Australia, the UK, and Ireland.

When she distributed monthly stipends to the survivors of the Great Smoky Mountains wildfire.

After the fires, Dolly immediately jumped into action to help her fellow Tennessee natives. The My People Fund gave displaced families $1,000 a month for six months. She also started the Wildfire Scholarship Fund to provide all of the affected junior and senior high school students with $4,500 for college each.

In 2006, Dolly pledged half a million dollars to the construction of a hospital in her hometown of Sevierville, Tennessee. She also named a song after Dr. Robert F. Thomas.

The producer, Gail Berman, told the New York Times that Dolly invited her to lunch in the late ’90s. Over salads, Dolly informed her that she’d been unhappy to hear that the men at Sandollar Entertainment had given Berman an unfair share of the Buffy royalties.

Coat of Many Colors tells the story of how a young Dolly learned to overcome bullies by choosing to feel appreciation for the love of family rather than shame over the fact that her coat was handmade. Dolly wrote the song’s lyrics on dry cleaning receipts from Porter Wagoner’s designer coats while she was on tour with him. Her family used the original coat for other purposes, and her mother made a replica to display in Dolly’s Chasing Rainbows Museum.
